Grey Mare Books is a small publishing imprint managed by Brython, we aim to publish works of a religious and devotional nature. We want to support and contribute to the wider milieu of polytheistic writings, yet remain true to our roots in the British Isles.

looking to Our future

We hope over the coming months and years to publish and ever increasing resource of polytheist and devotional writing.

In 2016 we will be publishing a devotional volume dedicated to Gwyn ap Nudd; the God of the Underworld, the Dead and leader of the Wild Hunt.

In addition, a primer volume for Brythonic Polytheism laying out core principles, introduction to the gods, ritual formats and liturgy.

Prospective authors

We welcome contributing authors for publication on the following subjects, although we are always willing to discuss projects which do not fit exactly within this current scope.

  • History, worship and devotional practice of ancient British and North-Western European Gods and Goddesses
  • Works combining scholarly research, with instructions for practice and devotional works
  • Works presenting original  research on British and European religion and folklore.
  • Works presenting original historical research on folk magic and  tradition.

Prospective contributors should send a proposal outline of up to 500 words and or sample chapters if these have been prepared. In addition, a biographical outline of the author with relevant experience, works, interests and passions. Please send this in an email and not as an attachment.

Prospective authors should please contact greymarebooks@gmail.com

The Grey Mare on the Hill

There is a constellation over our landscape; there is a constellation of Great Goddesses of the Land, of Sovereignty and of the Horse.

From the Indo-European origins of Horse Goddesses to the Medieval Rhiannon of the Mabinogion, The Grey Mare has been upon the Hills above us. 'The Grey Mare on the Hill' brings together devotees of the Great Goddess of the Land, the Mare Goddess, the Giver of Sovereignty; and lays out their offerings for Her. Poetry, devotional spaces and essay works set upon an altar of paper to be offered up to her.
